    Gairloch Pattern Hose

A little bit of media coverage for these distinctive hose:

The Gairloch Pattern Hose were one of 14 items featured in the Highland Threads exhibit launched on 1 April by Museums and Heritage Highland (other items include a Balmoral Cap from the Strathnaver Musuem and the 4th Seaforth Highlanders Uniform from the Tain & District Museum).

A pod cast about the Gairloch Pattern Hose with an incredible amount of voters then won the top spot - the podcast and more info is available here: https://www.gairlochmuseum.org/gairl...a7Fbi0jVyziesM

I was very happy to be able to purchase a pair of hose in the Gairloch pattern last year, they do not get much wear as I like to keep them for special occasions but they are just about the finishing touch on my period correct Victorian era outfit. Great information on that link.

Very nice! Where did you purchase those, or were they a one-off custom?

    This guy makes them.

You'll see examples on his facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tartankilthose/

Check the post from 8 March - matching pairs of full diced and Gairloch Pattern - he also ships to the us (mentioned in another post).

    His website is at: https://tartansocks.simdif.com/index.html

I'm not familiar with the term "Gairloch pattern hose" but one does see, in Victorian photos, a large number of different hose patterns that mostly or entirely fell from use by the 1920s. (Some have recently been revived.)

Since the photos are in black & white we can't know the colors. So, it's wonderful that one such pair shows up in MacLeay, where we can see that this pair is grey with a blue & red over-check. (All solid hose shown in MacLeay are grey or taupe.)

    Here's a double-line over-check akin to that "Gairloch" pattern
