Thanks for the welcome!
It doesn’t start well, my tartan is asymmetric and Barb doesn’t recommend starting with such a tartan.
Furthermore, I’m looking at the sett width, 3” from what I found on DC Dalgliesh, and this would give a huge amount of pleats or otherwise only 5 yards at 31 pleats. Maybe I’m just confused LOL

Welcome, Louis. My sister has done an extensive genealogy . The paternal side arrived in New France in about 1640, outside Montreal. My paternal grandmother's ancestors were traitors to the Crown in the 1700's. The maternal side is from the UK but on the south side of the Tyne. A couple of clan names are involved but she can't place them in Scotland, much less the Highlands.
My point is none of that has affected my enjoyment of kilts. Come to think of it, it hasn't affected my wife's either.

Welcome! I just happen to be flying the flag of Quebec outside my home this week. Honoring my ancestors from Philipsburg.
'tis a brave thing to sew your own kilt sir.

Hi Louis and welcome to the great rabble.
I'm not sure where you are in PQ, but just across the line on Cornwall, Ontario. Barb's book is great to have. I just looked up the Plaid du Quebec and thought - "oh, asymmetrical, where do you start with that!" But I think there might be options. AS you say, it is a small sett, so that might make things a little tricky. Good luck!

BTW, be careful when wearing a Sgian Dubh in Quebec. An overly keen Gendarme arrested a piper at Place Des Arts in 2016 for carrying his largely concealed Sgian Dubh (perhaps, the MUC Police have a secret directive about dealing with bagpipe-armed terrorists). They threw the case out after two years and after a parade of Black Watch of Canada officers, etc. educating judges. The piper finally got his Sgian Dubh back in 2018.
Bon Chance!
Those ancient U Nialls from Donegal were a randy bunch.

Welcome from down west along the St. Lawrence River!
Have you checked out the kiltmakers forum? http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f116/
I'd say you could start with the Maple Leaf but it is asymmetric also. I didn't see any pics of the Quebec tartan in a kilt but did find a group of women in tartan hostess type skirts in the tartan and they looked great. I hope to see your finished project sometime.
