Let me guess. The contract has gone to "Long March".

That’s a bummer. Has anyone heard who won the contract?

If it’s a Pakistani firm I don’t think it’ll be much of a bargain based on the quality I’ve seen from there.

I imagine that the MM sporrans, while more expensive, last a long time.

I found this article on a google search https://www.thenational.scot/news/19...rted-overseas/
if something is on a country's endangered list would you not want to protect that. Is there anything PM Johnson can do to reverse this or has contracts been signed already? This would be akin to fish and game issuing hunting permits for bald eagles in the US.

I think MM have had this contract since 2007 (so it's been through a few renewals in it's time). They were actually a sub-contractor to Ammo & Co - and there was a fair bit of negative press at the time due to the contract "going south". Although given the Regiment of Scotland had only been formed the previous year with the amalgamation of Scotland's historic infantry regiments there was still a bit of disgruntlement (for want of a better word) about that - so some resentment about Scottish firms losing contracts was perhaps inevitable/understandable.

I haven't seen who has been awarded the new contract - and couldn't possibly comment on the current government's criteria for awarding public contracts!!

Apples and oranges. A better example is "buy American" or "America first". I watch the news and many in America feel this is unfair to the rest of the world... global trade and all that. No different in this case. It's a new millennium, and anything that can be labled "protectionist", is bad.

I don't agree with it, but there it is.
