Formal footwear set completed
Hello Rabble,
I’ve been putting together a set of formal footwear over the past several months. The tartan hose are from Scotland Shop, the vintage style garters are from House of Labhran, and the buckles are antique silver. The brogues themselves were a challenging point—almost all brogue production seems to have been outsourced to India over the past several years, including companies such as Kinloch Anderson and Thistle Shoes. I ended up finding a UK made pair from Gaelic Theme’s clearance stock, which happened to include my size.
The buckles are tied to the lowest shoelace loop. The laces are red satin John Burgess tributes. The buckle leathers are the vintage originals, over 100 years old, and need to be restored or replaced. Looking forward to opera and orchestra events resuming nearby so these finds can enjoy some outings.

How are the garters attached? Traditionaly, with that style the supporting ribbons would be worn on the outside of the hose.

These are sold with standard adjustable elastic garters. I’d be open to getting a self-tied version if I ever get around to ordering castellated hose.
