First off Wingnut, I think you're off to a great start. Jacket and kilt look great together.

I'll echo the other folks in saying that matching is unimportant in highlandwear, though sometimes I do enjoy matching minor elements, such as my tie and my flashes.

I'd encourage you to think about some brighter accessories to constrast with the lomond blue (much like charcoal it seems) jacket.

Here's one of my favorite combinations, which is a bit matchy. I feel like the ancient green tie & hose help bring out the ancient green in the tartan. The green tie also stands our quite a bit with the charcoal jacket & waistcoat.

Myself, I love brown when paired with Isle of Skye. I can never tell if there's actually brown in the tartan, or if it's just the combination of green and purple which is suggestive of brown, but brown seems a natural complement. Brown hose, and ancient green flashes & tie might look really nice. USA Kilts has g great wool ties and flashes (made by Lochcarron) if that's the way you'd like to go. A purple tie and matching flashes may also be a really nice way to go.

This morning I got a chance to do a few photos, here the only thing I changed was the jacket. First one is Charcoal, which to my eye is closest to what you have, second is Lovat Green which does work well with Isle of Skye, third is the Brown Argyll jacket and waistcoat. In each photo I've used the same Purple hose, same watch chain sporran, and shirt and tie. The tie is the Army Benevolent fund tie which I find works with most any tartan, shirt is from Brooks Brothers and is a blue check, sporran is an MoD cantled bag from Artificer Custom Sporrans.

This is something I've talked about before that would be really, really helpful for newbies to a particular tartan: a gallery of photos of outfits organized by tartan or other clothing component (such as a color of jacket or vest/waistcoat). So, for example, you could pull up IoS and get a whole bunch of ideas for what to wear with it.

It's interesting how different colors both top & bottom can bring out different tones in the kilt.
