Kilting in Sandals - Free your Feet too...

Anyone else picked up on the "Barefoot Movement?" Not barefoot where protection is needed but barefoot when possible, minimum footwear when needed?

Sort of ironic that we FREE our man parts with kilts, but keep our feet bound and squished with our footwear. It is possible to set our feet free too with the new FREEING footwear - even wide toe box shoes in various sizes, and wear them with our kilts so our feet are as FREE as our man parts.

I remember Hamish taking a lead on this years ago. Many of us in hot weather areas have gone to sandals out of necessity...but what about "whenever possible."

Yes, it flaunts tradition - but is well embraced by common sense.

Barefoot was nothing new in the Highlands even in my youth. In the 1940's I was one of the few children to wear shoes to and at school. Nothing was thought about it. Adults too, to a lesser extent, went barefoot and not an eyebrow raised by anyone. Although many at that time were in the services so the good old "ammunition" boot was the common footwear for many over 18.

I rock my kilts fairly often in sandals over the Summer, so I say 'rock on.'

Actually, one of the fun/funniest things I have ever seen was a fairly known/established/respected pipe band play in sandals for massed bands. We were playing at a beachfront location, they played early and hit the beer tent right after, and they definitely did not have their A-team there, and they clearly missed the head's up that massed bands was starting. That said, they seemed to enjoy it, a number of people in the crowd loved it, and as one of the people in wool socks on a Summer day, I was pretty envious.

A number of years ago I attended my local Highland Games, in August, wearing a kilt, kilt hose, and sandals. Later saw a photo of myself, on line, with a comment about wearing sandals with socks.
Fashionistas are more concerned about looks than comfort, I guess. 😉

Sadly, most shoes - and particularly ghillie brogues - SQUISH feet and toes. Scots often have BIG WIDE feet. The freedom of sandals is healing.

This is the old AmeriKilt Tiger Stripe Camo kilt. Light weight, went well with sandals.

This was at least 10 years ago at the Fergus Highland Games that take place in August, it was way too hot for kilt hose and shoes.

Vibram Five Fingers are the way to go, especially when it is too hot for kilt hose. I was hooked from the day they were first produced.

I was also but it took awhile to buy them. They were always sold out at first

The only time I really wear sandals these days I'm wearing flip-flops. If I'm wearing a kilt with them, I probably look about like this:

No, you can't see my flip-flops, but I'm wearing them. I spent 10 minutes searching for this photo so I'm posting it anyway. ;-)
