opinions on House of Edgar "muted"?

I have a plaid in mind. The plaid I'm looking at is MacLeod Hunting Muted. The vendor lists it as 14oz fabric. I've only found two mills making this - Str & HoE. I believe it's House of Edgar. I may be mistaken.

Does anyone have any insight into this? If so, I'd appreciate if you'd share.

I have a swatch on the way, but it'll take a while to ship from Scotland.

    I am a newbie.

What sort of plaid are you planning?

A great kilt. Several of them in fact.

I felt like a rock star when I recently attended the NC Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain here in NC. I forgot my tickets (like an idiot), I left them in the hotel room. It was my first time wearing a kilt. The gate wardens cut me off when I started to explain I'd left my tickets in the hotel room - they said "you're wearing swords - you don't need a ticket. Go in". So many people took pictures of me. So many fair maidens wanted to dance with me.

I love dressing up in Jacobite period correct clothing.

I am Scottish by blood. But I never knew my father. My mother left him when I was a small child. I'm in my 50's now. But now I know my father's side was trying to find me all these long years. They died before they found me. But they were looking.

So now I can claim my father's name. MacLeod.

House of Edgar is one of the major Scottish tartan mills. Good stuff.

FWIW, I have a MacLeod of Harris in the muted colourway and I really enjoy the fabric and colours. No idea of the mill or weight (although it feels as heavy as my heavy weight kilts). The fabric texture is a little rougher than my other kilts but not uncomfortable in anyway.

That's a good looking kilt. I like it.

Oh - you meant the tartan fabric - sorry, to me plaid is an almost a garment item of clothing.

Yes, the fabric only. No need for stitching for me.

I got a response from HoE.

"The Hebridean clan tartans (Hebridean MacLeod etc.) are our own unique modern take on the traditional designs. This fabric is 13oz."

I too have a kilt in that colour path and it has fast become my newest favorite of all our tartans.

Well I think it's gorgeous. I'm sure I'll be getting 4 yards of that, pending the arrival of the swatch.

    Gorgeous color palette.

    --edit--
Actually just now realizing the HoE muted is only available in 80cm width. That won't work as is for a great kilt. Bummer. Strathmore offers the muted in 13oz @56" wide, but it looks like a very different color palette. I'll order a swatch for that one too.

    Bummer.
