    Pleasanton Highland games

Happy to report that there was a Pleasanton Highland games this year.

It was strictly an outdoor affair and the crowd size was limited to 10, 000 guests (as opposed to 50,00)

It was a scaled down games (and HOT!), but my Lovely Star (aka the F-H.C.A.G) had a lovely time. It had been so long since we had listened to music, watched the dancers and the athletics, and heard the skirl of the pipes.

    Cheers

    Jamie and Star

    Looking good Jamie.

Couldn't help noticing the tartan - it isn't called the loud MacLeod for nothing!!

I went to Pleasaton back in 2005 with my (now ex-) wife and we visited the MacLeod tent - the lady there asked if my wife traced her family back to Harris or Skye - "Skye" replied the wife - her next question was "and how many generations back do you go?" - after a quick look at each other my wife answered "errr- just the one". I think we made this lady's day if her reaction was anything to go by.

    You guys look fantastic!

We attended Saturday, and had a great time. The athletes were impressive, the dancers graceful, the musicians talented, and the wood-fired pizza was a nice surprise.

This was our first time at a large event since the pandemic started, but it felt pretty safe overall - we were able to keep our distance, enjoy libations, and relax. It was very warm - 93°F if memory serves - shade was crucial.

I am glad to see your bit of the world is getting back to some sort of normal Jamie. Was Alan H around there throwing trees and bits of mountain about?

    Jock,

He was! He came out of retirement to compete Sunday with the Masters. He was having a great day with caber. This one, his first toss, was an 11:50 I think. He got 12:00 for the next two.

    Cheers

You both look wonderful! Sunday got up to 99* and there was just no way I was going to wear a tie (which is why I have the safari gear to fall back on)

    Cheers

Great to see some old events like Pleasanton being revived.
Still too much covid here in Scotland, but hopefully will be out and about again next year.
