    Casual saffron kilt ideas

Anyone have any thoughts on a casual shirt to wear with a saffron kilt? Usually you see these or solid color kilts worn in a more formal way. Looking to wear mine to a upcoming festival, I usually wear tartans but though I would give this a try.

I think I'd endeavor to treat the saffron kilt just as I would a normal tartan kilt. I find a nice oxford-cloth (or poplin) tattersall shirt to be great for casual daywear.

It's a good question, because the saffron kilt is more commonly seen with pipe bands, and they don't have to think about such things - they simply wear what everyone else does: a white button-down shirt, and a black 5-button waistcoat.

Depending on the weather and how casual you want to get, a polo style Irish sports jersey, sweat shirt or warmup jacket (soccer, rugby, etc.) would look nice and be very comfortable. I have a couple that are green and would look very good with an orange kilt. Of course this is about as casual as you can get.

A dark green sweater (especially an Aran-style cable knit piece) would be very nice with a saffron kilt if it were cold enough to justify one.

I love cable knit sweaters and have been wearing them since my mother hand kitted me one when I was in high school. I a natural off white one that would go very nice too, but I also really like the idea of a green one.
