    Very cool!

People need to hear their story more often.

I refer to them the Allen Brothers, Allen being their name.

Their first step was to change the spelling to Allan to make it appear Scottish.

Their next pseudonym was Hay-Allan or Allan-Hay.

In truth their name was no more Sobieski Stolberg Stuart than mine is Jabba the Hutt.

OC Richard - as you and I share a common forebear in Capt. James Stuart (Stewart) I can attest that there are no "Hutts" on my side of the family!

If you did not attend this webinar but wish you had, you can access it for a few days at least at https://www.historyscotland.com/info...tuart-brothers. Fascinating that Dr Buchanan's research virtually doubles our knowledge of the published work of the brothers and, perhaps, will lead to further expansion in the future.

I would love to hear your questions and his answers. Is the entirety still available?

I was interested in his view of the text changes between the CM and VS. What struck me during the talk was the fact that the CM pre-dated the early stories and poems Dr Buchanan identified from the 1830s.I wondered if the Brothers started with tartan as part of their Scottification as it was easier to pass off artistic material as authentic rather than prose or other literally output?

We discussed the Brothers’ Gaelic teacher and a connection with the Highland Society of London which I am pursuing. Also, the fact that we’d separately tracked down the Cromarty Ms. Neither of us has seen it but I am making plans to examine it later this year and look forward to publishing more in due course.
