    Pipers at Balmoral 2021

Not "history" but it is heritage, a gathering in 2021 of five prominent pipers to perform at Balmoral.

I believe the gents are, L-R

Richard Grisdale, Sovereign's Piper 2019-2021, 3SCOTS RRS. (He formerly served in the Liverpool Scottish.)

Captain Stuart Samson, The Highlanders. From Laurencekirk, as a youth he was Pipe Major of Queen Victoria School, joined the Gordon Highlanders in 1978, becoming Pipe Major in 1990. One distinction is being the last Gordons PM, as he was PM in 1994 at the time of their amalgamation with the Queens Own Highlanders. Director of the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming 2003-2008.

Major Gordon Rowan, RRS, current Director of the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming. From Tiree.

Major Steven Small, 3SCOTS RRS. From Duns, he joined the Black Watch in 1981 and was Director of the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming 2008-2016.

Paul Burns, Sovereign's Piper 2021-present, former PM of 1SCOTS RRS. The Pipes & Drums of 1SCOTS was abolished in 2021.

Note that Grisdale and Burns are in the Sovereign's Piper livery while Samson and Small are in Atholl Highlanders kit.
