    Splits help please

32 inch waist, around the belly button.
36 inch hips, around the buttocks.
It will be a PV Tartan (not sure yet if that matters for this)
    What would appropriate splits be?
Looking at the appendix in the book, these measurements appear, but not together.
    I was wondering if
    waist
    17.75 Apron and 14.25 pleats
    hips
    17 Apron and 19 pleats
    are suitable.

Wool always seems more malleable than any man made fibre fabric, so I'd always choose more pleats, with the individual shaping being less when making anything not wool. The Book is written with the assumption of using wool fabric.

I work more from the amount of cloth I have and the size of the set and how it falls on the apron when working out how to pleat - you can lose quite a bit if the placing falls just slightly wrong for your first thoughts. Sometimes the set just will not fit and almost one repeat is lost getting it to look right, but that is what it takes to satisfy my way of working.
If you are still feeling your way with kilt construction, maybe tack or pin your fabric so you can see feel or even try on different options before making a final decision.

If there is enough fabric, I personally, would make -

    At the Waist -
17" apron and 18 pleats of .83" each.

    And at the Hips -
19" apron and 18 pleats of 1" each.

May I ask please - Are you planning a mid-Waist kilt? Where the waistband or top strap is just on top of your hip bones?

I have an Amazon bought utility right now and it's sitting at my waist with the top strap below my belly button line about an inch so the top of the kilt is level with my belly button. That feels "right" but it does get hot when I am out for a walk, so the thought of having it ride lower was crossing my mind.
