    Rex,

Black and white images are always a challenge, some more so than others. In this case, the sett is clear and whilst I cannot be 100% certain, it does look like the Caledonia/MacPherson tartan.

Thank you, Peter. This makes sense. The lad photographed is the great grandfather (1874-1947) of an enquirer after his subsequent years in the US. He was born in the parish of Dalarossie and Moy and emigrated to the US (Pittsburgh?) in about 1902. He was reportedly involved in the MacPherson Lodge of the Order of Scottish Clans in that city. In those days the Lodge may have adopted the Macpherson/Caledonia tartan.

Do any of you have any knowledge of the 'Order of Scottish Clans'?

Concentrating on the apparent clan badge on the kid's shoulder, it seems like it could be the MacPherson cat but it also looks like a lion rampant, wielding a sword?
