    Charles' tartans

I know I posted this photo, and Peter listed the tartans, on different posts in the thread The Kilted King in the Traditional Kiltwearing forum.

However I thought it would be convenient to have the photo, and the tartans named, together in a single post here in The Tartan Place.

Top row: 1. Duke of Rothesay 2. Prince Charles Edward Stuart 3. Royal Stewart 4. Lord of the Isles Hunting

Middle row: 1. Black Watch 2. Hodden Grey 3. Old Stewart (ancient) 4. Gordon

Bottom row: 1. Duke of Rothesay Hunting 2. King George VI 3. Hunting Stewart (ancient) 4. Dress Stewart 5. Balmoral

    Great collection. A minor addition:

Top row: 1. Duke of Rothesay 2. Prince Charles Edward Stuart 3. Royal Stewart 4. Lord of the Isles Hunting.

I've updated the Charles collage in two ways

    1) added his new kilt (bottom left)

    2) removed photos of him in military uniform (the tartans were Black Watch and Hodden Grey)

I've hunted online but I can't find a clearer photo of him wearing Dress Stewart.

And although he has his grandfather's Royal Stewart kilt, his new one has more subtle shades.

Thanks! Due to them in different light (indoors and outdoors) I wasn't sure if I was seeing two different kilts.

Had I compared them side-by-side I would have seen that the sett is differently placed in relation to the selvedge.

The cloth is a special weave which has a black herringbone selvedge mark.

Updated to include his new Royal Stewart kilt, and incidentally his new sporran.

Notice that his two newest jackets have notched-bottom waistcoats.

I tried a couple times using this photo in the collage, but when reduced the tweed appeared as crazy patterns on some screens.

The photo excellently shows his new tweed jacket, new sporran, and new Royal Stewart kilt in lovely soft tones.

    How cool! Thank you.
I've long collected pics of Charles kilted. Will see if I have others, or can add some of these.

Would you describe the Royal Stewart in softer colors as ‘Royal Stewart Muted’ or is it a version specific to the King?
