    Designing my own pattern

Hello! New to this and I just wanted to gauge anyone's opinion on whether this pattern is good or does it need more workshopping. I'm planning on registering it into the kilt registry once I saved up enough money.

    Not attachment.

By the kilt registry, you of course mean the Scottish Register of Tartans.

Are you intending to have the design woven?

IMHO that design is nice, though perhaps a bit sparse.

If I was doing the design I would play around with the proportions, seeing what it would look like with the relative width of the black ground reduced by various amounts.

Sorry for the wretched colours etc but hopefully it will get the idea across, here's with the blue ground reduced to bring the proportions more into line with what's more usual.

Here the blue ground is reduced even more, bringing it further into line with ordinary modern proportions.

There's a continuum between attenuated tartans with vast empty spaces in narrow stripes, and congested tartans with the stripes widened and the ground narrowed to the point where the stripe/ground contrast disappears.
