    Hair canvas requirements

As on older gent that has had multiple hip surgeries, there is a lot of scar tissue in my left hip in the back, scar is approx 10 inches long. Until I started wearing kilts, the area just below the belt on current day trousers and jeans got rather uncomfortable both skin and muscle underneath. The kilts I currently own do not have the Hair Canvas and stabilizer installed, (100% Scottish wool tartan 13 oz.) and are quite comfortable to wear as the waist and belt are higher.
I am installing a stabilizer in these kilts and also thinking about installing the hair canvas as well. My concern is would the Hair Canvas be more of an irritant due to its vertical stiffness? Perhaps a less stiff interfacing would be more appropriate for comfort?

Your feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and knowledge,

Properly installed canvas isn't actually stiff, like a belt would be, and it does a pretty good job of distributing stress between the bottom of the pleats to the waist, so I'm thinking it might be OK for you. Does wearing a kilt belt bother your back?

    Thanks!

    Barb,
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question! I do really appreciate this!

The kilt belt at traditional waist does not bother the scar tissue, but a normal belt worn at current saxon wear waist does irritate the area quite a bit. This was one of the main reasons I was asking the question about the stiffness of the hair canvas in that area.
There is no issue with my back when wearing the kilts I own at the traditional waist with a kilt belt.

    Thanks again for your insight.

I think you should be OK with hair canvas - it's still flexible (unlike a stiff belt), and it shouldn't dig into your back. Let me know how it goes!
