    Making a jacket?

    Hello,

I have'nt been here for a while...I saw someone at the MN State Fair in a kilt, and it got me thinking about making a kilt jacket/vest(waiscoat in UK?)

I would like to make a jacket out of Black heavyweight wool with a matching vest. The jacket would be similar to this:

    http://media.redgaloshes.com/01/007689.jpg

The jacket would be fully lined with guantlet cuffs, mandarin collar, and external 'slit' pockets. There are no buttons. I would also make a standard cut matching vest with black horn buttons.

    1) Would this work well with a kilt?
    2) Where can you get wool to make a kilt jacket?
    3) Any ideas,opinions etc.?

    Thanks!
edit: The jacket and vest would be cut for a kilt...

Personally, it's the buttons that make it stylish, to me. If you don't want the buttons, then you may as well just modify a cheap tux jacket. Less work, probably cheaper too.

Oh, and as to getting the wool, try SR Harris upon 169. That, or one of the Mills End Fabrics we have around town.

If you're curious and it's worth a minimal investment:

    ...scroll down the page.

As I've said, i want one of those "Captain-Stuebing-from-the-Love-Boat" ones further down the page.

With design modifications, I don't see why not. As it is VERY straight cut, I'd make sure it was just a tad longer than a waist coat.
The gauntlet sleeves seem a bit odd to me for the straight cut of the jacket. The rest is very modern/eastern in cut, while gauntets are more 18th/19th century European and look best with a fitted jacket with much decoration.

As for the material. I would have to leave that up to fellow Minnisotans. Though, I'd get a more smooth surfaced wool than a felted one.

    3) Any ideas,opinions etc.?
    You asked, I responded!

Check out the pic of the guy in pants....It looks similar to what I am thinking of...

    1745 Reanacment

The jacket does'nt have a collar and it seems to have some sort of cuffs.

Does anyone have any pictures of a jacket like this?
