    Utilikilt snap extenders.

Last year, someone on the Yahoo site (I think it was Ron?) suggested using snap extenders to "adjust" the size of Utilikilts. I was a little doubtful, but a lot of guys thought it was a good idea. I found these for $2/ea. while I was going through the BudK catalog and thought I'd pass it along.

I'm still doubtfull; you'd have to have some subtantial adjustments to make in order to use them, and I'm not sure it would look good, but if it works...

I dont think they would work too well. The purpose of the snaps in the UK is to both hold the material in place left and right, plus up and down. Unless the extender was stretched to the max (and just get a kilt that fits by then) the extenders would allow the aprons to 'sag' in relation to each other.

You'd probably be better off just putting some new snap bottoms in the correct place on the underapron resizing it that way.

I can think of a way to make it work; I'm just not too sure I'd like how it looked.

Sandwich some velcro between the inside corner of the under apron and the outer, and let the beltloops hold up the outer apron's corner and kilt-side edge of the inner; that would hold up the aprons, and the snap extenders would be there to hold it closed.

Of course, with the overlap of Utilikilts already pretty minimal, there wouldn't be much fabric left to protect your modesty.

I think those vest extenders, as they are designed, are the tackiest accessory a "biker" could ever wear. If your vest doesn't fit, you should get a bigger vest, or put lace adjustments on the sides, or just leave it unsnapped.

A too-small vest will make you look bigger than you really are, and those extender thingies exaggerate the effect.

Utilikilts are like most trousers, no adjustability. They should have designed them with web strap side adjusters, like Army BDU trousers.

Big weather difference between Minnesota and Arizona. Always thought the real purpose of the vest extenders was to allow the vest to remain in a semi-open position, and thus cooler in the HOT Arizona weather, without flapping around wildly.

I've bought and tried the vest extenders with my Utilikilt Workman's modesty snaps and they work great...I'm fat...hooking up the snaps normally makes the Workman's look like a diaper. Using the extenders lets it hang more naturally.

    Each to their own.

Hey Ron, got any pictures? I'm currently a couple (or more) inches too big for most of my UKs: I'd be interested in an interim solution.

Well, there's the reason above for the bikers wearing them- there's also people like my husband- he wears his vest alone in the summertime, but over his jacket when it gets cold. (It has a beautiful eagle design on the back that he loves to show off.)

Something else that might work is to rivet a snap on either side of a piece of elastic. Then you would have a little give when you needed it, but it would contract back to stop the apron from slipping sideways. You'd have to put similar elastic on the underside of the apron connecting to the inside of the kilt though. I don't think it would work well for a formal kilt, but for a casual kilt it could look quite nice with contrasting or matching elastic if you sew the ends up nice and tidy.

Sorry, no pics, you'd be looking up my old address.

The extender things would be used down at the hemline between the modesty snaps. Don't think they'd work for increasing the size of a UK without looking kinda funny ....
