Athlon Sports SE Magazine
In the 2006 Preview Edition of Athlon Sports Southeastern Magazine (football) on pg 11, the drum major for Notre Dame marching band is in a full kilt drum major kit. Looks nice.

I can't imagine why you would get SE Athlon!! (Something to do with "Chickens from Hell," as related to "Ladies from Hell" )
Interesting though, a school ND, that prides itself on its "Irishness" has a "Scottish" drum major. I wonder if anyone (besides us) knows the difference?
It is a "general" celebration of "Celticness," as the fans cheer "The Fighting Irish"

It's all about the Cocks!
It may be an Irish tartan, Im not sure, I'll browse the books for a bit and see if I can identify it. It's not a bad looking one though.

So true!
OK so apparently ND has their own pipe band: http://www.nd.edu/~bagpipes/
the tartan on the website background is the one in the magazine. The history bio on the band seems to imply that this is their own tartan.
