    AARGH! My ears!

I just picked up a three CD set of "Celtic Hymns" from WallyWorld. Ten bucks, most of it is vocal settings of traditional hymns with a bit of instrumental background. Overall, worth the ten clams.

    However,

I saw Amazing Grace on the playlist and of course fast forewarded to it, expecting a pipe tune. Pipes, yes. Good, no. I never expected to hear out of tune pipes on a professionally recorded CD. I love the pipes, but had to shut this track off less than halfway through. Not pleasant at all.

Now I've got to go remove the knitting needles from my ears. AARGH!

Maybe that's why the three(3) CD set was only $10.00! Were any of the others that bad?

No, and that makes this train wreck all the more puzzling. The pipes were not tuned (and the high A sounded particularly awful) and the fingering was a bit sloppy. Considering that AG is usually one of the first tunes learned, they must have gone out of their way looking for a rank beginner to put on an otherwise alright CD.

Your description sounds like my first try all the way through A.G. on my practice chanter. My tutor has me recording what I play and then listen to it to learn the errors of my ways. After listening to A.G. by top pipers, I can quickly find my errors and work to improve.
Did WallyWorld steal one of my recordings? It could not be because my practice chanter is at least in tune, even when I am not.

Wall a Mart has had some good and some bad Celtic music.. I picked up an Irish Drinking Songs CD most of the songs were by the Dubliners and it was good... But then another cd was full of lesser known artists, I guess it depends on who and what is being sold to Walla Mart
