    "Drinkard" Family Tartan Help

One of my friends' family name is Drinkard which also has variations of Drinkwater and Drinkwatter. He says that he's seen his tartan before for his family and would be interested in purchasing a kilt however I am completely unable to find this tartan anywhere. I have checked the Tartans Authority, and House of Tartan to no avail. I researched House of Names to see if there were any other variations of that family name with no luck.

I have also found a few people's geneology website and I hear mention both of English and Scottish ancentry, however whenever someone mentions Scottish there is never any mention of a tartan.

Normally I would just accept that his family does not have a tartan, as not everyone does, however he is convinced that he does and that he's seen it.

Anyone else have any suggestions as to finding this elusive tartan? If not might anyone know any affiliations the Drinkard family may have shared?

    Thanks!

I doubt very much if there is any particular Scots connection for the name Drinkard or Drinkwater which sounds an archetypical English name. Have you done a surname search (someone posted a link here recently) which may give you a clue? They may be best going for one of the universal tartans in that case.

Surname profiler here http://www.nationaltrustnames.org.uk/Surnames.aspx shows no results for Drinkard, meaning that there were less than 100 of them in the UK in 1998. Drinkwater is shown as being mostly in England along the Welsh border especially in the Worchester and Warrington areas , with none or few in Scotland. There are no results for Drinkwatter.

Drinkel is on the east coast around Lincoln, and Drinkall is a bit further north around Duncater, as well as in the west in Lancaster.

    But no Scots.

That's pretty much what I've been thinking as well. He probably saw a tartan somewhere and someone probably just told him that it was his, not truly knowing the true identity of the tartan. I'll keep looking a bit, but odds are one doesn't exist. If anyone stumbles across it let me know, otherwise thanks for the additional validation that this probably is false.

Ah, but if your friend were only a DRUNKARD, he'd be a "citizen of the world" and entitled to wear any tartan he took a liking to!
