It does, because it's made of wood.

Your yarn is made from wood? Are you a witch?

No; I thought you had that covered for us.
I do have some yarn made from sugar cane. It's really silky and shiny.

Funnily enough, quite a few yarns include materials that start out as wood. Rayon, Lyocell and Tencel for example are manufactured fibres that start with a cellulose source such as wood pulp. Whether they weigh the same as a duck is another matter though

The sample looks great, maybe you could get more clarity if you were to knit in a finer guage? smaller yarn? smaller needles?
What did you use?

I agree! I approached a company in Scotland some time ago about knitting a bespoke sock such as this, and they said they would indeed do it.
Cheers,

Fingering weight on US #3 needles. I fear a finer guage would take me forever, and i'm trusting a little more practice will help clarify the colour changes. Still however waiting for my yarn order to come in (the sample was from the ends of last project.) I believe this would qualify as "jonesing." Thank you for the ideas.

Very small rocks.
OK, enough of that. Nice start of the hose, they do look good. The finished product seems like it will be something to see indeed.

Elf,
You may want to look into using a duplicate stitch (term to look up in reference books) for the stag heads, you take the contrasting yarn and follow the stitch of the background to make any pattern. It will probably not distort the figure as much as the intarsia if stretched while wearing. Just another thing to think about and swatch while waiting for the materials.
