Clan crest rings?
I saw these mentioned in another thread and not wanting to derail it I will start another.
Do people really buy and wear Clan crest rings? Personal ones are not unusual, but a Clan crest? I have seen them advertised, but I have to admit that I did not think that people actually bought one! I am not tying to be critical or condescending in any way, but I have not seen one in the wild.

Hi Jock.
I've seen them in jewellery stores and lots of adverts saying you can order your clan's crest. I wear a Jerusalem Cross, my wedding ring, and a masonic ring that came from a special deceased friend.

I would think this would be something more popular over in North America than in the UK, but yes, people do.
We've sold a range of them in sterling silver for years at the STM gift shop (also available to custom order in gold). Both men and women purchase them.

It is often said that the convert is more zealous than the man born to the religion. I see no difference to the man who has just discovered his clan affiliation. Both will go slightly overboard to start with. Otherwise why would people have themselves tattooed with the clan crest?
I once saw an advert for clan crest underpants "For the times, when you don't wear your kilt!"

Chas has just summarized the contents of several thousand posts to this forum.
Yes, Jock, people do buy them, along with stickers, stamps, shirts, bumper stickers, license plates for their cars, coffee mugs (beakers), and just about anything else a crest can be put on.

I've seen quite a few being worn at various Games.
But when we have rings (and other jewelry) for everything: universities, fraternities/sororities, military services, civic groups, and just about any other organization you can imagine (not sure why someone would wear a CIA ring, but I've seen them).

It seems then, as though all these assorted rings are more the equivalent of the UK's "club/Regimental type ties? I would have thought a Clan tartan would be an obvious way of signifying a connection though?

Fargo North wears one, and he's probably the world's foremost decoder.
Surely you've heard of the world famous Fargo North, Decoder?
