Just in time to watch Skyfall in the movie theatre this weekend... We are shaken -- not stirred.

We felt a solid magnitude 3 here in Kofu. The whole house shook quite nicely, thank you very much, but no damage that I could tell.

Thank you everybody for your concern, though. Local reports say there was a 1m tsunami in Miyagi Prefecture, close to Fukushima, but the no damage was reported up there, and radiation levels are normal right now.

To be perfectly honest, right now we are more concerned about Mt. Fuji. It has been due to erupt any year now for some time, and boffins tell us that the latest seismic readings show that there is a recent pressure buildup in a major magma pool... We only live about 1.5 hrs by car away from Fuji... If/when that sucker decides to go off, I suspect we may be evacuating. The scary part is, that any significant earthquake activity could trigger an eruption.

But until then, we are checking in and fine! :-)

Good. I am glad that Mr and Mrs JD are okay.

I hope that Mt Fuji doesn't develop a case of indigestion anytime soon.

I watched the video on television. This was a strong quake, no? I heard 7.3. In 1976 there was a 7.5 in Guatemala. Over 23,000 died. We have made great strides over the years - especially because of the Japanese and the Californians. Watching the video I was impressed that not only did the buildings shake and stay up, but also the traffic kept moving. The electricity did not even go off. What amazing progress we have made.

Glad you are well, Sushi. Let us know about Fuji. I wonder what Barb Tewksbury knows about that old mountain.
