Fine doublet for the smaller figure!
Another fine doublet with silver buttons for the super slim with a fat wallet: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Meyer-Mort...71182126482%26
It's coming yet for a' that,
That Man to Man, the world o'er,
Shall brothers be for a' that. - RB

Been bespoke the buttonsare not hallmarked but have been tested,
For a set of solid silver buttons would set you back around £1600 so for a start price of well less than half the cost of the buttons you get the lot
In 1928 all silver was hallmarked, so if it is not, we have to ask why not?
If the buttons are supposed to be worth £1600, why aren't they being sold separately, instead of losing £1000 plus the value of the jacket?
I am not saying that this is dodgy, but it does not ring true to me.
And for what it is worth, I do not like the buttons - whatever they are worth.
Regards
Chas

Now Chas, I love the buttons! De gustibus, and all that,
The doublet is superb: Meyer & Mortimer are the best.

The buttons are certainly unique - I have never seen anything like them before.
But sadly the doublet will fit neither on of us ...

I thought that legally-speaking, if the silver was unmarked it had to be sold as "white metal". If they were tested why were they not marked at that point?
I know that I, personally wouldn't walk away from £1000/$1600 in silver just for convenience sake.
Other than that, it's a lovely doublet, shame I'd have to have most of my ribs removed for it to fit.

Here's another nice jacket, looks almost like a double breasted Argyll. Beautiful set, I believe it may have belonged to Sir Alfred David McAlpine.
