    First kilted experience

My first public kilted experience, other than festivals and games, was at my father's funeral. He passed August 1, 2012. I had contemplated wearing the kilt to the funeral and at the last minute just when with it. Afterwards, several people said that it was a fitting tribute to my dad that I was kilted. After the services, several of folks started striking up conversations with me of their heritage and clans. What was even better tribute was the piper we hired playing "Amazing Grace" at the graveside. To this day I can not keep my eyes dry when I hear it played on the pipes.

Good for you. Sorry about your father but that was a good thing to do. Very respectful.

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your father. May God bless both you and him.

I hope you don't too strongly associate the wearing of a kilt with your father's death. It would be a shame if a grieved feeling deterred you from enjoying your kilt under happier circumstances. I hope we see some kilted pictures of you in the not-to-distant future. Take care.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Forgive me if I'm being insensitive, since I only know what you've said, but for what it's worth here goes.

I'm getting the impression in England, particularly among the middle classes, there is no space left for grief at funerals. They are called "A Celebration of the Life of X" and taken up with tributes from relations and colleagues. I also get the impression it would be bad form to weep.

Obviously, people have to cope with bereavement in their own way, but I'm very suspicious of this denial of grief.

It sounds as though you managed to balance grief and celebration. I do hope that will help you as you continue to come to terms with your loss and not be put off wearing a kilt.
