    Getting the wrinkles out

I have a sport kilt that's pleats are starting to wrinkle. I know they say wash and let hang dry or you can steam it. We have a dryer with a steam function do you think this will get out the wrinkles or is is better to let the kilt hang.

    Thanks
    Scott

I normally dry mine in the dryer and then, if the pleats look a bit wonky, I touch them up with my steam iron. I usually sprits the pleat with a mixture of one half vinager and one half water as it helps the crease to last a bit longer.

I think that there are two things here - related but different.

If you have been sitting around in your kilt all day and some of the pleats are crumpled, then a quick steaming and hanging should bring them back to life again. Gravity will do its work.

On the other hand if you are thinking about washing them tumble drying your kilt, you will need to do some pressing (not ironing). Tumbling with steam might very well relax some of the creases, but will not return the pleats to pristine condition.

    Regards

    Chas
