    Got a new AK (Amerikilt)..here's my review:P

Over the last year or so, since I hit my early 40's, my metabolism seems to be slowing down. Just a tad. As a result, my mid section is growing, which meant..new kilt! (The fiance' was all in favor of this ) For whatever it's worth, I'm not " fat", just showing my age. At 6' and 180#, I guess I shouldn't complain much.

First, I was shocked to discover my *actual* waist measurement was 36 inches. All my jeans (have to wear'em for work..) call it a 32. Deception!!
No worries, though. Long legs meant a 24" length, which was fine. Just at mid kneecap length, which is where I like'em. Ordered one, in black (like my soul)

Upon it's (swift!!) arrival, the thing was *stiff*. Brand new fabric, which was fine. Tossed into the wash (on cold, of course) and then hung to dry thoroughly, *and then*..tossed into the dryer on warm, with a dryer sheet, to soften the puppy up. Bingo, now we have a kilt to wear.

First, the fabric itself. Definitely more heavyweight than I'd expected, almost a lightweight canvas. It feels substantial, though, and I like that.

Fit and finish. The fit, after the wash/dry session, was dead on the money. No complaints. Flows air (y'all know what I mean, right? ) and comfortable.

    **Bonuses**
    The Amerikilt sporran/pouch/thingie..
I love the clasps, and though I thought, at first, that it would look goofy, I find that I was completely wrong..and it's also useful as hell...!
    (Yes, I use the sporran/pouch/thingie)

    **Complaints**
Only one complaint, and that's the closure at the waistband. Using Velcro to close the waist band, instead of a snap or a slide-fastener is questionable, in my book.
It doesn't feel secure, and indeed, it wasn't. Also, a second snap on the *left hand* side would be advisable, but that's just my opinion.

Overall, I love it. After my wedding is done (May, 2013), I'll be ordering a few (3 or 4) more. Utilikilts are only getting more and more expensive (even at the local consignment shops!), and I'm not yet settled with time to attempt an X-kilt, though one will definitely be in the works. Of course, I get the usual stares (in the small city of Everett, it's not 'the norm') and comments, some good, some bad, and some flattering.

Yup, X marks the Scot, and the Kilt marks the Spot.
    More to come, I think.

Have a great day (and holiday season) everybody!

The "knock" on AmeriKilts in the past was that the material would wrinkle if you looked at it too long. I know I am being facetious and mean no disrespect, I owned one about 3 years ago. However I had heard they had a new material that someone had commented you could sleep in and would look fine simply shaking it out. I am really interested if your kilt is of the "new" material and your observations/comments etc.

I've been wearing it pretty much non-stop, and I've had no problems with just 'shaking it out'. A quick smooth down, and off we go..!

I've got 2 of them bought in the last year. The black one won't wrinkle much but the OD green which is a much stiffer material wrinkles easily. Not sure what kind of fabric either is made of. The green seems to be canvas or duck cloth. I have no idea about the black one.
