Have your friends told you they felt underdressed while you are in a kilt?

My female friend admit to me last night at our dinner that she felt she's underdressed now since I started wearing a kilt almost everyday. She said our friends agreed with her that they also felt they are underdressed too. I found that odd. Did that happen to you and your families/friends too?

My wife says that often. I am usually the best dressed man in the room, even around other kilt wearers. I don't dress to impress, I dress in THCD because I enjoy it and I find it comfortable.

Generally, I find that a lot of folks don't recognize that the kilt doesn't set the level of dress, it's the accessories. A kilt is actually pretty neutral as our 1 kilt 10 looks thread shows.

So, what is it that makes you the best-dressed man in the room along with the other kilt wearers?

Now that's something to think about. If my fabulous American Eagle belt buckle, and a good-looking sporran accessories make them feel like they are underdressed.. To imagine when I get to order a Wyvern custom sporran.

I'm going to dig up that 1 kilt 10 looks threads now.

Again, my sense is that its level of dress will technically depend more on the type of sporran it is than who made it or how beautifully done it is within a given style.

I have an Artificer custom that is the absolutely most beautiful leatherwork I own... but it is a day sporran because it has a leather cantle etc., so it wouldn't normally go as well with formal kit. On the other hand, a full hair sporran with a metal cantle is pretty well formal even if it's in horrible condition, or horribly made.

Having said all that, if you know the rules and do everything else right but choose to break a custom (there are no rules) that's up to you. I believe that our friend Jock has one sporran and wears it regardless of the level of dress of the rest of his kit. That's because he knows exactly what he's doing and wears it with confidence, and probably with general disregard for the opinion of others. The result: it will look right regardless.

Aye. I respect the purposes and rules of the different sporrans. For some reason the days sporrans call to me. The project I have brewing in my head for a day sporran to be crafted by Donnie of Wyvern is going to be awesome.

I do not own a hunter, or a formal sporran yet. That's something I will keep researching and browsing till I stumble into one I really like.

I've had randoms make comments to that effect when my wife and I shoot weddings. When you're in a room full of dudes in bad suits, lame business casual, and cheap tuxes, wearing a kilt is like bringing a gun to a knife fight.

Well that is a good question. Number one, I pay attention to proper fitting clothes not just the kilt. I am overweight so I take care to wear clothing that is "my size". Being neat and clean, wearing the kilt at my waist and my shirts are always pressed. I do sometimes wear a Polo shirt and it is always tucked in. And I do pay attention to the accessories i.e. sporran and belt.
