horrid pressing boxpleat to knifepleat
We see this on Ebay from time to time, a boxpleated kilt (Seaforth, Cameron, or Argyll) on which an ignorant person has badly pressed the pleats from their original shape to ordinary knifepleated shape.
This one is on Ebay now, "vintage mens wool tartan Scottish kilt"

Also note that the top of the kilt has had an extra strip of (almost) matching tartan added.
Here is the auction. You only have two hours!

I find the horizontal line of stitching at the top of the pleats to be an equally attractive feature. Perhaps the new lining was stitched through at the bottom? I assume its seen multiple reconstruction events over its life.

Ugh! Simply ugh!
But OCR, sincere thanks for posting the image, quite instructive to see the mangled wreckage to avoid when cruising the on-line merchants.

Yes, but at what effort? First, one would have to carefully de-construct it (take apart all seams), then steam the fabric flat, then re-make the kilt. Anyone with the skill to do it would be better occupied to make a kilt starting with new tartan fabric.

Yes, it would be a pain in the butt but I don't believe you'd have to take the kilt apart to press the box pleats back in if that is how the kilt was made.
I don't know how cheap this is going for....
....and now that i have really looked at it I can't see how it could be a box pleat to begin with anyway.

The pressing is not the only problem. Someone put extra fabric just below the waist, giving the line of a woman's yoked skirt. Who is going to wear that botch-up, even well-pressed?
