I have no kilts that fit

I've lost 72 pounds, and over four inches off my waist. None of my kilts fit any more. And a new kilt is not in the budget until we get some medical bills paid off.

Congratulations on the weight loss, that is a wonderful accomplishment. Four inches off the waist? I think you could get your kilts altered pretty easily. I`m sure someone who knows more than I will advise.

I have only one kilt that I'd want to alter. It's pretty big right now, though. I guess I could ask.

Although this is not likely the most correct answer, you can move the one buckle and the non-matching belt for four inches. That can be done by one of the many capable kiltmakers about, or yes, you can do it yourself.

Lay the kilt out flat. The buckle next to the wee slot cannot move, so move the strap that goes to it and the other buckle. Be sure to mark what you're moving where first, and be really, really, really sure that your needle goes all the way through the steeking and support material. It's okay in fact if it goes all the way through the kilt since the stitches will only show inside and that's next to your body and invisible to the world at large.

I've done it myself on a couple of my kilts with great success. Approximate time: 1/2 hour.

A proper kiltmaker will do some other kinds of "cheating" to make it look better, but to save your hide in the present situation, do it yourself with great care to measure and mark properly.

Good luck & post us some pix!

Congrats on the weight loss! There was a thread by kiltmaker Barb Tewksbury where she demonstrated just how much smaller a kilt can be made, so you might be ok with a strap and buckle move. Making a kilt bigger, however, is not so easy...

Congratulations on the weight loss. Understand how that can affect wearing a kilt. I did not lose 72 pounds, I only lost about 30, but I cannot use my kilt without a belt. I am sure there are those here who will give good advice on how to alter your kilts. And may your weight stay off permanently, and may your medical bills be paid off as quickly as possible.

    Have a happy healthier year.

I'll go look for it, but do you have a link to that thread? My wife is a pretty good sewer and clothing maker.
