    identification help

I have attempted to attach a picture of the plaid/tartan design I am looking for. We have recently run out of material, we have no idea where it originated from. We have several school uniforms to finish with no material. It is simular to a Ramsey pattern, with the slight differences on the dark blue small strips are white in our material. Any help is appreciated as I know nothing about tartan design and hopign some one here may have better information than i have been able to find on my own.

    what else do you know?

Can you tell us what the fabric is made of- wool or something else? Do you know its approximate weight per yard? How much more do you need?

I will do my best to answer, keep in mind that frabic is not my back ground.

Our current supplier promissed us he had 3 years of material, and after 3 months he is out. Cannot identify the material or where they had purchased it.

I have been researching and it is very simular to Ramsay Blue, with brighter blues and a solid white stripe between the 2 dark blues stripes.

Problem being we have told parents that they have to go to the new uniform by January. It is light weight as the children wearing these clothes are 2 -9 years old. It needs to be machine washable, therefore synthetic materials are best. We will need enough to make uniforms for 75-100 childern per year, that beign said the parents network ans swap clothes as their childern grow out of sizes. I am guessing 70-100 meters to get us through the next year and then some.

We have found a company in Europe that will match the patern, but costs and shipping are quite high to Canada. Not to mention the time.

If I remember correctly, there is a weaver in the Vancouver area. Steve Ashton, of Freedom Kilts (also the forum owner), would be able to give you their name and contact number. That would help cut the shipping and customs' fees.

It is quite possible that this is a unique Tartan to the school. It is also possible that the fabric was woven in Vancouver by Fraser & Kirkbright as they did a lot of Canadian school Tartans. Unfortunatly Fraser & Kirkbright do not exist any more.

The new company started by Gordon Kirkbright is called GK Textiles Ltd. All the fabric is now woven in Scotland and sold through GK.

If this was woven by Fraser & Kirkbright there may not be any available and it would require a new run. We are now talking a special weave, shipping to Canada along with duty and tax when it crosses the border.

The only way to tell if this is one of Gordon's custom Tartans would be to contact him.
