Congratulations on getting your kilt!!! Can't wait to see some photos.
Don't start celebrating the lack of customs charges yet. I have had to pay at the door upon delivery (jacket and waistcoat) and I have gotten the customs bill after the fact (kilt). Hopefully because it was shipped Royal mail that you escape the dreaded customs bill, but I would still be on the look out for one just in case. At least you didn't use Fed Ex. You could get a second kilt for what they charge in customs fees.

Your kilt must be light enough to ship royal mail.
When I ordered my 8yd 16oz Cawdor kilt I had asked if they could ship it royal mail to escape custom charges, and this is how they replied:
The limit for Airmail is 2kg, and your kilt will weigh 2.5kg, so for
insured delivery it has to go FedEx.
Oh well, I cant wait for the kilt but not looking forward to the charge.
Anyway good luck and enjoy the kilt.

They told me the same thing but I e-mailed them back to not ship Fed _X
and that If they could not ship Royal Air even (if I paid for extra weight )that I would wait the 8weeks for reg mail. I was surprised to see that they send it air.
total weight of package was 1.762Kg included six yard kilt(16oz) a small booklet and a pair of hose
Kilt is 21"L 41 W 43 SEAT
total shipping was 20.24 pounds

It is true that Royal Mail Letter Post has an upper weight limit of 2kg, but Royal Mail's Parcel Force standard service carries International parcels by Air up to 30kg. The cost of shipping a 3kg parcel from the United Kingdom to the USA is currently £40.30, and the expected delivery time is 5-8 days. There is also an 'economy' (surface) service.
There are very detailed information pages on the Parcel Force website regarding the difficulties that might be encountered with US Customs at the point of importation - especially where textiles are concerned! Maybe parcels sent by the Parcel Force service are subject to stricter scrutiny resulting in Duties and Taxes being levied, as with the Courier companies. There is no mention of that.
However, what I am saying is that Royal Mail DOES carry parcels over 2kg, and up to 30kg, both by Air and by Surface. The sevices are available at all United Kingdom Post Offices.

Congrats oh neighbor to the North.
Good to see the folks on the Western slope of the Rockies kilting up.

Congrats!
16oz Strome from Lochcarron a casual? Sounds more like a traditional "tank"

On the other hand I have ordered a number of articles from Great Britain and have yet to be charged any additional customs fees whether the reason was that it was included in the price or no, I don't know but I usually shop for the best price.

I don't know how it works in Canada, but the USPS would not have delivered without payment if duty was due.
