John D Burgess - any questions
Hi,
I've not been around for a while and there are a few closed threads with questions about Dad. So, if you have any questions, do you guys want to put them underneath? If I can answer them I will. If not, I'll ask my elder brother or my Mam and see if they know....
and yes, it's silly o'clock in the morning here so I may regret this later!
regards

Another question.
1: Did your father regularly wear the kilt as every day wear when not piping? Alright, two questions!
2: Did his non piping civilian kilt attire differ much, when compared with his piping attire?
Thank you.

Hi!
1) no piping stuff and weddings and so on - and one memorable event - my 21st …. I wore a beautiful green velvet and taffeta dress and was thinking I was pretty smart… and then Dad walked out in Green Ross cut on the cross looking AMAZING… makes me grin to this day… he was the BEST person to shop for clothes with! He also liked to wear tartan trews sometimes
2) no again - same outfits

Hi, Mags.
Not a question, just a comment. One of my former piping instructors has your dad inked on his arm - the tattoo looks like a photo; don't know how they did it. When I asked him about it, he said, "I owe John D my life, he saved me." Perhaps you know whom I'm referring to and in what context, but if not I thought you'd appreciate knowing that. I can explain in a private email if this is enigmatic for you.
All the best.

Did Niall Stewart get your dads silver and ivory mounted Henderson Bagpipe?
how many sporrans did he own. He was the smartest dressed piper I’ve ever seen.
What did John do for work?

Hi
Dads pipes, which were my grandfather Ross’ pipes - are still in the family
Numbers varied - he didn’t have the vast numbers that people seem to think he had! And he would sometimes sell ones he wasn’t wearing so often and buy others
Dad was the piping instructor in various schools in Ross-shire

Mags,
I’m glad the pipes have stayed in the family. Hopefully they’ll continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
