It just gets better and better
It doesn't seem that long ago that when out and about I often preferred to avoid populated places - being still a little conscious of being in a kilt. The places I enjoyed most were in the country or in the mountains.
That is quickly changing, I now find that i seek out populated places so i can "show off" the kilt.
Tonight my wife and I attended a "bush dance" sponsored by a local church. I found myself walking into a hall full with about 200 people, I was the only one kilted.
It was a nice feeling to be aware of being in a kilt, you can never not be that - and enjoying the experience as ever, but yet not the least bit embarrassed or shy about being kilted.
For those who are new to kilting, I would like to reiterate that the experience of wearing a kilt in new places and situations just gets better the more you do it.

Way to go Graham! I think you have hit the
nail on the head. Life just gets better the more you
wear a kilt!

Way to go Graham, you nailed it. It does just keep getting better! I hadn't relly thought about it, but I think that now instead of shying away from people who might be tempted to say something negative I stand straighter and defy them to coment. I didn't even realise I was doing this until I read your post.

OK Graham, you will have to englighten me as what a 'bush dance' is. That is other than a party at the White House.

Right on Graham...
The stage after the "seeking out public places" is the "forgetting you wore a kilt". People will start staring at you and you'll wonder "WHY ARE THEY LOOKING AT ME???!?!... oh yeah... I'm in a kilt"

In a kilt one thing you don't have to worry about is people staring because ya forgot to zip up. I don't really even think about it anymore. I wear my kilts, I go whereever I want to go and nobody gives me any flak about it. It really is in how you carry yourself. Not that people don't look in some surprise, but I have yet to get a really hostile reaction. The closest I came to that was a couple kids in a passing car yelling "Nice skirt". I yelled back "Thank you". End of story.

Someone needs to write all this stuff down. The only thing I can add to the "WHY ARE THEY LOOKING AT ME???!?!... oh yeah... I'm in a kilt" is just remember when you drop that can of corn in the grocery store (been there and forgot that...lucky my wife was the only one in the isle, well, except for that damn camera Wal-mart has in the ceiling!!!).

That's a good one Vince
The Australian outback and/or wilderness is referred to as the Bush.
In fact, anywhere out in the country can be regarded as such.
A bush dance can be held anywhere but is generally a cross between Scottish Country Dancing, line dancing and a blend of all sorts.
Usually there is a live band and all have a good time.
