    kilted for eternity

I am in the process of planning for my funeral. With no family it is something that I must do ahead of time. There will be no visiting hours or ceremony. I will be embalmed and laid to rest in a Veterans Cemetery.
I am giving serious thought to being buried in a kilt, argyle jacket etc. What does the rabble think of this idea?

I think I want it to be a LOT of years from now, Phil!

For the benefit of the people that will be required to dress you for eternity, as a practical matter, might I suggest that you take several photos of yourself as you wish to be attired. People unfamiliar with Highland wear might find dressing you confusing. As for what I think, I believe you should be sent to eternity in the way that pleases you most. It is perhaps the last choice you make and it is a choice that should make you happy.

I see no reason why not. It is a wise man that prepares for the future. Far better to do it now, when you have all your faculties available to you.

No one knows what the future might hold.

I think it is a great idea.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Fabulous idea. I'm with Rondo et al on this one.

I sincerely hope that it will a long time in the future, Phil, and that, as you have no family of your own, you will allow the rabble to take up a small corner of your thoughts and heart.

    Thank you for your service.

It's a great idea Phil and its one that that I hope to emulate when my time comes. Although hopefully we have a lot of living still to do before that time comes. Also my SO has instructions that my ashes are to be scattered to the wind on the shores of Loch Shiel in the shadow of the Jacobite memorial, so that I can join with my fellow clansmen who answered the call to the raising of the standard at Glenfinnan.

That said I would like another 30-40 years before then, God willing.

As Rondo said, it's your decision and your right to make that decision, so good on you! I would like to do the same but I suspect it will be a less than top quality kilt because I want my son and his son to keep my kilt(s) as heirlooms if that is their wish. I hope you have many years before your kilt is needed in that manner.

I agree with Father Bill hopefully it will be lots of years in the future. It is however your choice and you might want to include photos just to make sure you look as you would wish for your last do.

Sir Phil, I am in agreement to many things the others have said. After all it's your choice to express your wishes when that moment comes in your Journey.
As a fellow Veteran tho, I would like to make sure you are honored as such.....

Maybe something Veteran appropriate and bagpipes to honor your journey in this circle....just a thought from a veteran bystander.......
