Good to see the Gaelic school opening. Kind of ironic that kilts would be rejected.

Not to be rude, but your topic title is misleading, seanachie. A more acurate title is the actual title of the article "Boys reject...."
The school has not rejected kilts. They are an accepted option. The MALE STUDENTS have rejected them (and possibly the parents).

I am not at all sure that I would want to wear the kilt to school as a general day to day school uniform either! I did for a while, all too many years ago and I can well remember that I envied those that came to school in shorts!

It's not totally clear if the choice was all kilts or no kilts.
If it was individual choice then kilts might appear on some pupils from time to time in the future.

Funny malapropism in the first line of the article. "Boys going back to skirl..."
Maybe they have compulsory piping lessons!

I like the idea of boys having a choice. Especially as many school uniforms give girls a choice. I bet as the boys get older, some may well choose the kilt. I like the school colours too.

While, like Jock Scot, I wore a kilt to school on occasion I would not willingly have done so on a daily basis.
There is a clue in the article that states that the skirt is very expensive at £40. I would suggest that the economics of buying a kilt in the school tartan might be prohibitive. Doubly so if the young man also wishes to wear a family tartan kilt outwith school. At least I was allowed to wear a tartan of my choosing.

It says that the tartan is Holyrood. My guess is that the girls' skirts are using the excellent Marton Mills PV fabric. They could use it for kilts also (less $$$, washable), but I wonder whether that was considered.

I, too, wore a kilt to school for a while, but that was not in a City setting. I think if it had been I would have preferred shorts.
