    Out and About

Well I finally acheived my first milestone and spent the whole weekend kilted.

Friday night was the most interesting, went out to a pre Xmas dinner with another couple to a local resturant. We arrived early however by the time we payed the bill it was absolutely packed with partying groups including some large groups of middle aged ladies. One nearly fell off her chair turning around to look while others just blatently stared, my wife even saw one pointing. I felt like going up and saying "Don't you know its not polite to stare?" The other couple we were with thought it was amazing.A waiter even came out from behind the counter to check what he had seen then gave my wife a grin and the thumbs up! I would love to here how others have found groups like this?

On to the weekend I found the response was geat for conservative Hobart. Hardly any response at all from the supermarket or the local bakery but most pleasing was the positive response on kilts from all our friends who all seemed to drop in this weekend unanounced. One with a Scottish background even sugested he might get one.

Just to end on a high note my wife sugested I should order another kilt and asked what my next would be. I said I could not decide between Black Watch and Scottish National so she said "Why not get Both"

    Well Rob,

you certianly seem to have had a great time. You'll get to the point where you'll be wondering what people are staring at ...and then realise that you have your kilt on

In Norway folk are more reserved. No one ever says much ..Unless you speak directly to them.. However you can see their faces are full of questions

Sounds like your wife like it too. I'd get ordering thoose two kilts right away..

    Good Luck Rob
    All the Best.....David.

Oh to have a wife like yours. Mine asked me what I wanted for Christmas and added "Don't say a kilt!"

Yes it is fantastic to have a wife that is 110% behind you. Our topics of conversations on peoples perceptions and prejudices have increased 10 fold since becoming kilted not to mention the bit about women being able to wear enything they like and nobody even raises an eyebrow!! I sometimes think she gets as big a kick out of peoples reactions as I do. I have had more laughs at peoples perceptions in the last few weeks than I have in the last 40 years in Tr......s. I am sure with time your wife will come around. Maybe shareing this forum with he may help. My wife loves to read of others adventures.

As I have posted here before, in the short time I've been wearing them, kilts have become pretty much a non-issue for me. I've actually reached a point of not really noticing other peoples reactions unless they come up and say something. Guess I've reached the point of wondering what all the fuss is about.

My wife is a different story altogether now. She loves to watch the reactions of people, especially other women, to me in a kilt. Maybe it strokes her ego that they find me attractive? Last weekend when I was approached by a group of nurses while we were visiting my Dad in the hospital, she even egged them on a bit. A few weeks ago we were shoping in a local bookstore and she just stood by chuckling and grinning as two ladies tried to pick me up at the same time.

Last evening we attended a christmas party of very close friends and I became a minor sensation for a brief time with the women there. I took a little good natured ribbing from the guys, like I said...we're all very close friends, but nothing mean or ugly. Before we left I was approched by and gave out several kiltmakers cards to some of the husbands and told a couple of retired Marines about the marpat and leatherneck tartan. So Bear, Rocky and Jeff, look out for some more business from NC.
