Quick survey...I have an urge to lay out, cut and pin another kilt tonight...
Granted, I already have two or three in pins, but I am sewing them pretty quick these days...but...I have some gorgeous MARPAT twill, and AFPAT, and the NAVY Digi pajama twill...although I already have a Navy digi...so, what say the Rabble? MARPAT or AFPAT?

There ya go! The middle one, I have already made a box pleat from and it is pretty much a favorite...I am leaning toward the MARPAT..I do wish I could get the print that includes the globe and anchor..

I'd go with the one on the right.

I took an Elsie Stuehmeyer kiltmaking class and I've still not finished the kilt I started there! I really need to get a-cracking.
BTW in her method the pleats are never pinned.
Good luck with your kilts! My favourite is the pattern on the left, but they're all nice. I really like the look of camo kilts.

Lol..I would love to take Elsie's Boot camp course..probably never get to, but hey..I machine sew everything, and I have sorted out a method that is somewhere between the X-kilt (I started following the directions and, as usual, bailed halfway through and did it mmmmmyyyyyyy wwwaaayyy..) and what is depicted in Barb and Elsie's book..which I refer to when I get stumped..I really only make box pleats at this point..as I prefer the look in a contemporary kilt. Anyhow, I had posted the same question on facebook, and as I am navy, and many of my friends are either USN or USMC, I went with the MARPAT got it measured and cut..I did not get it pinned, as I have to rethread my machine to sew the two halves together so the camo is oriented horizontally, it is threaded for the denim kilt I am making, and I have to change all the tensions to go back to regular dual purpose thread..
I have enough fabric left over to make a sporran and cargo pocket if it comes to that
