Seattle, Utilikilts, Hamish, a wedding, & a busted radia
So I drove up to Seattle Friday afternoon for a friend's wedding (I was also the photographer). It was a small not too formal affair, so I wore my ancient Hay from scottishkilts.net with a shirt/tie/vest at the wedding and with a t-shirt around and about most of the weekend. Got looks and stares, "I love a man in a kilt!", "Why are you wearing a kilt?" ("Because it's Awesome!"), saw a girl taking a picture of me with her camera phone, got high fives from strangers, etc. The wedding, by the way, was a stressful and none-too-pleasant day. Then on sunday (a few hours before planning to head back), I was driving around and the radiator on my car suddenly busted (it was hot, and the radiator was 260,000 miles old). We pulled off to the side of the road, coincidentally, accross the street from the Utilikilts store in Seattle. Unfortunately, it was Sunday, and it and everything else was closed. We got a tow, replaced the radiator on Monday, and decided to hit the Utilikilt store before we left town. Inside, we saw pictures of Hamish, and the owner asked incredulously, "You know Hamish?!" (I think they have a shrine in the back dedicated to you, Ham). Another guy that worked there said that he had driven by kilted on his motorcycle the day before and saw a guy in a kilt in the parking lot (it was me! lol). Anyways, to make up for the stress of the weekend, I bought a black mocker Utilikilt, and the rest of the day and the drive back was wonderful.

Good Lord I thought at first that you'd broken your arm. (busted radia/radius) I've got to start getting more shuteye.
That had to be pure kilt-karma at work to have broken down outside of the Utilikilt store. I mean what are the chances?
Anyway, great story and I'm glad everyone's still in one piece .

Sorry to hear of your 'eventfull' weekend, Zeytoun, but what a happy outcome: you now have a Utilikilt you might not otherwise have!
Yes, I was in the Utilikilt store several times last July during a three day stay in Seattle with my good pal from here, Dave W. (We were invited to the company's Anniversary party). It was rather embarrassing to see so many photos of myself dotted about the place and, yes, there were a couple more behind the scenes - but no shrine (that I saw! ). There is one (now rather old) photo that they've blown up to small-poster size, which I'm told is used on the Utilikilts sales booths that crop up around your country!

I went to their tent at the Grandfather Mt. games.
They do look like excellent kilts. Hamish, if I
mention your name do I get a discount when I
order one.

Hey Zeytoun,
Glad you got back safe and sound with a new kilt, even though your weekend did not go as planned.

I very much doubt it, Nelson, since I don't get one! If, however, you do, I'll want to know the reason why!!!

You have to be the best walking Advertisement they could possibly get.
No doubt in my mind on that one. Hey don't think I will not try! There is plenty of Scot blood
flowing thru my veins to get it a shot.

I hadn't even been thinking about getting a Utilikilt before Monday, but I tell you it did really make up for the rest of the weekend. I think both the traditional kilt and the neo-kilts are great, but the Utilikilt is noticeably cooler in temp. than my 13 oz 8 yd. The way it's cut also makes it easier to lounge around without displaying your goods. And I still got Scottish/bagpipe questions while wearing the Utilikilt. Going to the store in person also helped get a good fit (I'm 6 feet tall, but wear a medium, not a long), because I personally don't like Utilikilts worn past the knees. Price is pretty great too. I'll have to get a bearkilt next...

Oliver,
Congratulations on your Mocker! I am really impressed that you got to see the shrine to Ham, I hear it is wonderful.
