    And so it begins...

I finally broke down and placed an order for my second kilt this morning. I picked a UK Tan Survival. Having made my first kilt, I wanted to buy something that I would not worry about knocking around in.

I think my next in a few pay days will be either a Bear kilt or a Matt Newsome special. I will get them both but it might be abother couple paydays. I read the McBitseach blog when he updates it and love the philosophical rants. To honor him and hopefully to keep the blog going I want to support his business. As for Matt, I like the pleating style he is using and I feel like I owe Matt for his help getting the material for my first kilt.

When JimmyCarbomb gets his pajama kilts into production I want one of those as well. I need something to wear lounging around the house.

Ok, to my point, does this addiction have a cure? Hamish, what are you up to now? 40? I started wearing 5.11 pants after finding out how comfortable they are. Now I have 4 pair, and 3 pair of the shorts.

I have very few addictions in life. Woodchuck Amber Cider, Wings (the hotter the better), Diving, and now kilts. Has anyone adapted the 12 steps to kilts? I guess it really is not fitting as kilts do not hurt anyone. Or do they?

    Doc

I once asked someone with a lot of tattoos if he ever regrets having them. He said, "If you ever get sick of your tattoos, you go out and get another."

In a similar vein, the cure for kilt addiction is to get more kilts. The more you have, the more you want.

And unless you wear the same one every day for several years, you don't need surgery to get it off!

Sorry Doc. My total currently stands at 51! (Which reminds me that I've not yet posted photos of the latest three. Must do that.) However, I have two more on order and am trying to make up my mind about a further three.

What on Earth are "5.11 pants"? Not those ghastly-looking things that flap about the wearer's calves I hope!!

I too am a man of few addictions. Actually, when it comes to it, I've just the one: Kilts! No, kilts do not "hurt anyone" in a physical way - on the contrary - but they do hurt the Bank account! I just dare not calculate the cost price of my 'Kollection' ;)

    Hamish,

The 5.11 pant was originally designed for rock climbing. I find them very comfortable to wear. The FBI, police, and fire department community have found them and sales have taken off.

I guess one reason for getting the UK survival was that it is a close match to the 5.11 pant in style.

As to the cost of your collection, I can relate. I have been diving since 92 and 3 years ago I made the mistake of tallying up all of the receipts for my gear. I do more advanced diving than most divers so my equipment is also advanced in price. Full face mask, communications, and dive computer alone totalled $5,000. As I don't smoke and support other addictions, I bought most of it while still considered in the low income bracket. It was very eye opening to realize that my gear cost a combined $10,000. And to top it off, I do not carry that high of a credit card debt, ever.

I am going to clean out the closet this weekend to make room for my kilts. I have a bunch of pants that I will never wear again. Maybe a yard sale is in order to make some money for more kilts :-)
