    Styles of Prince Charlie?

This is an interesting one for me.
Slanj have started doing some really cool Scottish t-shirts and I was spending a few minutes eying them on my way to work each day.
Well, I decided to go in and price them and picked up a catalog on the way out.
It was then that I noticed they offer two styles of Prince Charlie outfit, One 'Traditional' and one 'Modern.'
The difference? The traditional has satin lapels and a 3 button waistcoat, the modern has wool lapels and a 5 button wasitcoat.

Now, I have to say, I prefer the look of the 5 button wasitcoat but I also prefer the satin lapels.
Has anyone else here heard of this 'new' distinction?

Here's a link to the styles on their site.

    New Prince Charlie Jacket

I applaud the company for modernising the jackets, but I do not like the 5 button waistcoat which is larger than the jacket and shows too much underneath jacket. It does not look right to me.

However, I live their tweed jackets !

The "muted" look of the modern jacket/vest is interesting. A neat variation in my opinion.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

I have seen this as a modern take on things, however it just is not my cup of tea. Isn't nice to have a choice though? As for myself I'll stick to the Montrose Doublet, and perhaps my PC with the traditional 3 button waistcoat.

I'm with McMurdo on this one. Never saw anyone wearing five button vest with PC or a PC with satin lapels.

Have to admit, I like the traditional better.

Isn't the 5 button wesskit suposed to go with an Argyll? Looks like a bit of a mish-mash to me.

It simply doesn't look quite right. Not bad, just . . .off, somehow. Maybe the "traditional" look has been ingrained into all of us.
