    Tartans associated with Ramsay?

I had this in the Tartan Forum, but not sure it was getting seen. So am reposting it here in general:

Hi all you tartan wiz's out there. I am curious regarding family names, and ultimately tartans associated with the Ramsay Clan. I have a nice Ramsay Red modern and a length of yardage in Ramsay blue (awaiting motivation as a next kiltmaking project), but I am wondering about any other tartans I could use and still have some clan affiliation.

I'm not a strict traditionalist when it comes to tartans, and district tartans are certainly an option. I just don't know enough of my own maternal family history I guess. Any direction, names, places that anyone can offer would be great.

Part of this is motivated by an upcoming trip to Scotland in September. I might need to seek out a wee bit of tartan to take home.

    cheers,
    Gwynn

I'm not certain how much, if any, help this will be to you, but you can see a half dozen "Ramsay" tartans at

    http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/qRe...hString=ramsay

You might also look at the Midlothian tartans at

    http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/qRe...ing=midlothian

or the Angus District tartans at

    http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/qRe...chString=angus

    Good luck.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Thanks! I knew about the Ramsay clan tartans in red and blue and have both. Just was hoping for something different and the ancient red is a little washed out for my taste. All the Ramsay blues are nice but I was wanting something in a real hunting green. LOVE the Midlothian district tartan. So will see if I can get my hands on some in Scotland.

    Cheers,
    gwynn
