The Wallace Sword on Tartan day
Ive just read in the daily record that the Sword of William Wallace, normally kept in stirling castle is being flown to New york for Tartan day, its the first time its left Scotland for 700 years, and I urge anyone who has a chance to see it, its one of scotlands most treasured items, Ive seen it and its awesome.

The wife and I plan on attending and marching with the Mackay Clan. Just saw highlights from 2002 on Tartan.TV this week and decided I have to be there!

Does anyone else find this kind of sad. Here is the sword of one of Scotland's freedom fighters, leaving the coutnry he fought for, to goto the US to help promote tourism. As highlander_Daz said, it's one of Scotland's most treasured items, so why take it out of the country. Does the declaration of Idenpence or the liberty bell make the rounds of other countries? What ever happened to nationalism before commercialism? Just my opinion. Hope you guys near by take the opportunity to see the sword if you get the chance.

It says they are doing it to promote tourism to Scotland. were only a tiny country with a population of 5 million (thats less than New York) and with the closure of the shipyards etc we need all the boosts we can get, I think its a little sad too but I think Mel Gibson is involved and if it lets celts across the pond see one of Scotlands most sacred relics then I suppose it OK , aside from the stone of destiny it really is our most sacred relic, and I hope you get to see it

i m not shocked about any actions or activities. it just depends for WHAT (reason) the action is taken for.
encouragiing tourism is good. of course talking about commercialism is another, bigger discussion. but then there are other points that i mind more than the wallace sword story.
