What brand of kilt do you work in?
Hey, guys and gals. I have a question for you everyday kilt wearers. I work with wood, building furniture and art pieces, and I'd like to hear which brands of kilts y'all all prefer to work in. I have a couple SWK Standards and a Utilikilt that I usually work in, but the SWK's are a bit warm and tend to snag fairly easily. I would like to buy a few more low-end kilts to work in that I won't mind getting glue and paint and stuff on, but that won't heat up the bathing suit area too much (I live in Texas). I have to say that I am not partial to UK's, although I understand that the Workman is great for my line of work. I just don't think they look much like a kilt, tbh. I've often looked at Sportkilts, and I recently saw that a window washing company in Canada wear SK's, but the ones that I have seen online and in person look pretty awful. Mostly, I guess I am comparing the SWK Thrifty and the Original SK right now. There is a bit of price difference, but I've heard some athletes say that SK's are great warm weather kilts.
Any thoughts/advice/new ideas would be very much appreciated.
Sláinte,
Kris

I am an Every day kilt wearer and here in Utah we are enjoying 100+ degree temps. I am also the owner of 4 SWK’s and 5 Sport kilts plus several other nice dress Kilts. My kilt of choice for everyday wear Is the Sport kilt Ultimate. They cost a few bucks more than the original but I needed shorter length and just love the pockets and belt loops not to mention sewed down pleats. I have two of the SK ultimate and one SK Commando both of my Ultimates have been machine washed Dozens of times and still look great. I have taken my SK Originals Hemmed them and added belt loops and sewed down the pleats They are great but nothing beats the SK Ultimate for every day work wear.

We've been having some pretty good heat in Reno this summer. I wear a kilt anytime I'm not working(safety and work rules). I can not say enough about my two casual PV kilts from USAK, light for summer and machine washable.

When I worked in the small engine/moped shop, I would wear a StillWater Thrifty kilt.
Between the heat, oils and other things that stain -- my good kilts never saw the inside of the shop.
Now, I work from the privacy of my home and only have to be presentable from the chest up.
I .. uh .. work in one of the flannel Sports Kilts most of the time, with a USA Kilts Casual Kilt coming in close second.
I've lost enough weight the thrifty kilts no longer fit me without a belt.

I am a leatherworker myself. We work with a lot of dyes, glues, etc. Denver has been rather... warm... lately. I personally wear Amerikilts every day. They're cool, durable, and cost less than half of what a Utilikilt costs. As long as I can get Amerikilts, I'll never bother with UK. Granted, they don't have the pockets, but it's not that tough to adjust.

Sounds like a leather RKilt would be just the ticket.

Awesome to see another Douglass Ancient, I picked up mine from USA Kilts as well although in the semi traditional!

I work in a in a USAK casual or semi trad when kilted at work but.... I work with food and booze and as I am in charge I don't do much cleaning so the PV is not exposed to anything caustic. I will say that TEFLON is my friend "on the line" during a prerace "pasta feed" or a long night behind the bar.

Summertime at the beach (not ON the beach, I live AT the beach) frequently finds me in my SportKilt (Blackwatch or US Army) or my USAKilts (Celtic Nations).
The Blackwatch SportKilt is the basic (cheapest) model and is what I use for lounging around or doing yard stuff. The US Army Sportkilt has sewn-down pleats, belt loops and pockets - and is what I use for going about the neighborhood, shopping and what-have-you. The USAKilts is a step above that and I use it for everything except yard work.
All three are comfortable in warm weather. The better two actually "dress up" nicely for dinner - meaning shoes and hose. (Won't get into the kilt with sandals/flip-flops area. LOL)

I wear one of 5 or 6 Sport Kilts to work every day. I work in an office so I usually wear a polo shirt and belt with it.
