What hat is best worn with a Welsh cilt?

The Welsh only adopted the cilt in the 1960's I think. No one bothered to invent any form of Welsh headress to go with it. I don't want to imitate the Scots by wearing Scottish headress, I think that it would be in poor taste. Any ideas?

I don't think that I agree with you, Mel. A kilt is a kilt after all. It is only the weave of the fabric that is different, not the construction of the kilt.

I wear a plain, simple, black wool beret. Because I'm dark-complected I rarely wear brimmed hats for sun protection, but for that purpose perhaps a safari/bush/pith type hats would work?

I cannot for the life of me see why you should not wear a Scottish bonnet, but perhaps with a Welsh themed badge? You are after all wearing a Scottish style kilt(I think?) but made with a Welsh tartan.

I am not sure that there is any specific Welsh headgear for anything.

What goes with a Kilt will go with a Cilt.

I guess it's because I'm always having to say,"No I'm not Scottish, it's Welsh." I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Yes, went for a black beret with a family badge, but with sunglasses I look like an IRA terrorist!

Yes, I got a nice family badge from America, they only make clan badges in the UK. I guess you're right about the kilt thing. The Powell cilt that is now in the post somewhere,is hemmed, something to do with the type of weave I think. It also has the red dragon embroidered on the bottom of the apron in line where the pin goes.

Perhaps some accessories with a Welsh theme? I have a sporran with a Welsh Dragon on the flap. It's a nod to an old Welsh line in my family tree. Just a thought.

Yes, I've done that to one sporran, but not my main one which has the Druid "Awen" symbol on it. My new cilt will have a small Welsh Dragon embroidered on the apron.
