OK, I'm starting to notice a touch of opposition toward my views on the casual use of traditional garments... so...

What kind of kilt jacket would be considered the equivalent of a sport jacket, meaning dressy, but suitable to wear with an open collar, or a mock turtleneck or some other casual dress style?

Bomber jacket, or skip the jacket altogether and just wear the turtleneck sweater. I don't have any opposition toward your "views on casual use of traditional garments", I'm not a very formal guy myself, but I always thought that wearing a sport coat with an open collar looks a bit pretentious.

I think a tweed Crail jacket would work fine.

I would wear it much like a sport coat, I think it would look good.
My personal feeling on it is if you are able to wear the rest of your wardrobe the exact same as you would if you were wearing trousers then you are just about there. Why make some massive change to everything you wear.

I mean all it is is a kilt instead of pants.

There was an Article about how to shorten a sports coat into a kilt sports coat. Maybe head to a mens warhouse and tell them what you are looking for, they might be able to find a jacket that would work. a jacket made for somebody 5'3 with the arms of a person 6'2 =)
I doubt it but it might be worth a try. Or you can talk to a local seamstress and see what they charge. I know if you are anywhere around a military base they tends to be cheap. (only because they get alot of work)

Hey Iolaus,

I'm having a ball wearing a replica Royal Air Force battlejacket and a replica enlisted Ike jacket (War 2 replicas) with my kilts, both contemporary and traditional.

Added insignias to replicate my father's RAF Flying Sgt rank and my uncle's Tech Sgt rank in the 45th Infantry. Being a tribute to both makes the jackets meaningful.

The high waisted jackets work well with kilts.

Might be a bit too informal for what you have in mind though.
