    Dress sporran woes.......
Anyone care to share their opinions/stories/decisions concerning purchasing a dress sporran?

Once again, the overwhelming choice of makers and styles for a kilt-related purchase has given me an excruciating headache!!!!!!

If this is a sporran you will wear frequently, I would be more prone to invest more into it to get one that I really like and looks sharp.

I don't dress formally that often so I was willing to compromise on style and went with a basic dress sporran in black rabbit.

I bought from Paramount Internationl off ebay. I think sporran + shipping was somehting like $30. It is virtually identical to many I've seen going for over $100 on other sites. Is it real rabbit? I don't know and I doubt most people would know either. It looks good for the 1 time a year that I dress up.

This is the same sporran I bought. I have bought from Edges of Time once before and had good results with him.

I bought a seal skin dress sporran last year. I love it. It is perfect for evenings that require a good dress sporran (and jacket). Leather sporrans just don't look as good for a night out all done up.

I got my sporran from www.scottishkilts.net

You won't wear a dress sporran as often, but it is nice to have when you need one or want to wear one.

Here's the one I have. It is on top of my Ancient Watson kilt.

I like the seal also, unfortunately we live in the USA where the marine mammals protection act doesn't allow it. I have the white rabbit personally. Looks really sharp with a P.C.. O'Neille

You can have a sealskin product in the US under strct conditions. It must have been made and in the country before the protection act and you have to be able to provide documentary proof of that. My mother has a sealskin jacket she got from her mother and she keeps the registration that was required when the protection act was passed. It's never become an issue but it's there.

My ancestory allows me to have ivory and seal skin Athabascan, Yupik, Russian, swiss, and Irish on my Dad's side. I could always carry my Bureau of Indian Affairs I.D. with me but I'd rather not bother. I may take it with me on my next Scotland trip and bring one back. O'Neille

I bought my white rabbit sporran on Ebay. like Cavscout, I only wear it once or twice a year, so it suits me just fine. Don't let the snobs talk you into spending hundreds of dollars on a sporran.

On another matter, Beerbecue - we're having a kilt night on Saturday. We'd all love to meet you. If Woodsheal didn't email you, let me know and I'll send you the details.
