stupid question
Hi,
This may sound stupid, but can anybody tell me the difference between box and knife pleats? Does anyone have any pic's of the two?
Thanks,
Keith

Here is a good place to start:
http://kilts.albanach.org/pics.html
Knife pleats and box pleats are present there. It's easier for me to show someone than to describe.

Knife pleats are what you see in a typical traditional kilt - narrow pleats that all fold the same way (from left hip toward right hip).
Box pleats are typically wider and are folded in pairs that face one another. Matt Newsome makes box pleated kilts, and you can see a pic at his web site (http://kilts.albanach.org/).

Looks like Andrew and I were typing at the same time!

Ha ha ha... yeah that happens from time to time.
Well, often a little more often than you'd imagine. Funny though.

Thanks for the education, now I see the difference.

This should answer your question. http://www.elizabethancostume.net/pleats/ The only dumb question is asking one you already know the answer to.

I'll go further than that and assert that there are no stupid questions. This is in no way meant to imply that there are not plenty of smart-@ssed answers. *shrug*

I like the comparison pictures on this page for comparing knife pleats to box pleats.
