OK. So its after 1 a.m. and the sump pump is going full blast. It has been raining off and on for almost a week and there is a line of showers stretching from here (40 mi south of DC) to the NC border. The basement has a few inches of water and I hope I've not lost the furnace. Gotta love old houses (old for the states). This one was built in 1878. The basement is more of a cellar that was dug out early 20th century.

Not whining but in for a long night. My students will just love me tomorrow!:twisted:

Our basement floods once every spring. Invariably, there is a week in Kansas where it will rain buckets for four or five days and we end up with water in the basement because our basement drain can't keep up.

I used to obsess over it and lose sleep until I realized, I can't make it stop raining, and I can't keep the water from backing up, and I can't fix the drain so it will drain faster. In other words, there's not a blessed thing I can do. Once I stopped feeling guilty about something I had absolutely no control over, I slept just fine.

Hang in there. It's going to be okay.

Thanks! The pump seems to be catching up but I don't know how fast it's coming back in. :soda: guess I'll grab a carbonated caffiener.

One of the things that I both hated and loved about the 1892 farm house I used to own was that water came in one end of the basement and went out the other.
